Feathers

It is my goal this summer to make the feather my choice accessory. It seems the earrings have it...

Fringe

I'm loving two things right now: feathers and fringe. We'll discuss the feathers later. Now, onto the fringe...

Dressed Down

I am rather intrigued by the strapless dress over plain tee trend. When you think about it, it's the ultimate form of dressing down (misguided, insignificant pun intended). It's a juxtaposition of fashion extremes. The ultimate symbol of comfort, the T-shirt, under the most elegant garment that fashion has to offer, the dress. A fan of combinining seemingly contradictory elements of any sort, I've decided that I must try this. I adore Camille Belle's interpretation.

I also like this take on the trend. It's definately more daytime appropriate.

I'd probably opt fot a high waisted skirt/tee combo when experimenting with this look. Something sort of similar to the look in this American Apparel photo.

My Kind of Floral

While everyone's fawning over floral dresses like this Topshop number this spring, I find myself being drawn to the floral dresses' less popular, equally enchanting cousin, the floral accessory. I've never been one to take any trend too seriously. I find trends to be more of a suggestion, really. I'm way too stubborn to let someone tell me what to wear and how to wear it. The floral dress is cute, don't get me wrong. I love them and own a few myself. I'm just more taken by the more subtle application of the trend.

Here are a few finds. My heart aches for that last Topshop necklace.

Background Noise: Bloc Party

My life is all over the place at the moment (when is it ever not?), so it's befitting that I've been listening to Flux by Bloc Party almost nonstop. A great justaposition of indie sound and techno elements makes for an interesting listen. Add in also the fact that the song lyrically lays down exactly what I've been thinking/feeling in recent weeks and there's no denying why it's this week's Background Noise.

Enjoy!

Old Navy Dress

The other day I ended up in Old Navy. I was in the neighborhood and I figured it wouldn't hurt to look. I always figure this and I am always WRONG! I ended finding this dress, which I've talked myself into and out of buying for weeks. It's too long, too dull...Well, I finally gave in after finding that it had been marked down to less than half the original price. I am now in LOVE with this dress. It looks 100x better in person. I cant wait for it to be warm enough for me to wear this somewhere other than my living room.

Background Noise: The Go! Team

Since my fashion tastes have been fairly random lately, I figured my music should reflect that. Nothing says ramdom and all over the place like Huddle Formation by The Go! Team.Their sound is somewhat cacophonous, but don't let that fool you. The song is adictive and will have you singing along, even if you can't quite figure out what exactly they're saying.

Enjoy.

Marc Jacobs Boots

When I first saw these Marc Jacobs boots I thought they looked rather severe. A stroll downtown changed all of that. Upon stopping at the crosswalk after work one evening, I looked down and saw a woman wearing their solid black counterpart. They were stunning! Sleek, yet edgy. If it weren't for my heel phobia and lack of cash, Id get a pair myself.

Style Muse: Ani Tzenkova

I discovered Ani Tzenkova by accident. Actually, I think it was fate that drew me to this style maven. The pic above showed up in a WhoWhatWearDaily.com post recently and inspired me immediately. This is everything I want my look to be. The juxtaposition of seemingly opposite tastes embodies my style/personality perfectly. The look is simultaneously laid back and put together. It's daring, yet unmistakeably classic. Accessorizing at it's best.

Recent Purchases: F21

After work, I decided to stop by Forever 21. It was on my way to the subway, so I thought why not?

Upon walking in, the vest pictured above caught my eye on a menswear display. I grabbed it imediately. It fits, but since it's designed for a man the cut is a bit awkard, but it's nothing going a size up can't fix. It's perfect for that whole vest and tee aesthetic that I'm obsessed with at the moment.

I am in love with the bracelet. I usualy hate them/never wear them, as they make my wrists look weird but the coil style looks great pulled up on the arm. The purple earrings are actually a nice olive green.

I also snagged some great layering necklaces. The kinds with natural beads. I love piling these on in the summer.

I did not actually buy the hat, but I'll be sure to check for it when I exchange the vest tomorrow.

T-shirts and Vests

I am constantly searching for style inspiration, so imagine my surprise when it happened first thing in the morning during an 8:00 AM class. You heard right. A classmate of mine showed up late (I don't blame her)wearing my new fashion obsession, a petite pinstripe menswear vest over *gasp* a generic ECKO Red tee. She probably threw the look together in minutes and still managed to look better than those of us that actually planned our outfits for that day.

The gorgeous Rumi over at Fashion Toast posted something similar recently.

Luckily, I just bought a vest from F21, so I'll be trying this look out very soon.

Tee Time

This past week has been insane! I'm just thanking my lucky stars that it's all over...for now, at least.

With all the work, fashion has definately taken a backseat. I usually dress for comfort when it comes to school, but this week I took the idea of comfort a little too literally. T-shirt's have become a temporaty staple. Throw on a cardigan, a pashmina (my favorite accessory), some flats and you're all set. No thought involved. Perfect for those of us running only by the graces of caffeine and a few hours of sleep.

Dressing up the tee has become a semi-obsession of mine. I'm constantly searching for ways to give this ultimte symbol of comfort some style merit.

American Apparel has some fun options. Aside from the plain white variety, they have added some fun colors.

L to R: This mint green crew neck would be fun with shorts for summer; It would be fun to dress up this cranberry v-neck, I'm just not sure how I would go about it. Maybe pair it with a pencil skirt and heels.

This deep v-neck also caught my eye. In a nice neutral, this style would look amazing. Definately not your average tee.

Background Noise: Justice

I have been listening to Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T" nonstop all week. I really can't explain why, but I can't stop singing it. It's just so catchy! So when it came time to start thinking about who to feature this week, Justice instantly came to mind. Their song DANCE is actually inspired by MJ. You can kind of hear it in the lyrics. "Stick to the B.E.A.T/ Just easy as ABC..." Not a far stretch. It's just as infectious as an MJ song too.

Enjoy.

I'll be back, officially, on Friday. I have one more midterm, one more...

Break Time

I've put this off for as long as I could. I guess I just didn't want to admit it to myself, let alone all of you...

Posts this week have been few and far between and I must apologize for this. School is just too overwhelming (it's midterm season)and it's making me sick...literally. I will be taking a few days off to gather my thoughts, assignments, health and whatever else I've forgotten to mention and I will be back better than ever, daily updates and all!

Thanks to all of my readers, see you guys soon!

Lauren Conrad Collection

Though I have given up TV for the most part (it bores me, seriously), The Hills remains my guilty pleasure. I can't wait for the premiere of the rest of the third season. Lauren finally goes to Paris! I know it is (heavily) scripted reality, but I can't help it. In my defense, I did say it was my guilty pleasure...

This brings me to my reason for posting. While browsing Intuition's website I came across some Lauren Conrad Collection pieces and, honestly, I am not impressed. I know her signature style is laid back LA, but this line bores me. While I do appreciate the blue (teal?) in the collection, the clothes look cheap and are definately not worth their price tags. Leggings for $48. The $9 dollar Kmart ones that I'm wearing are just fine, thanks.

L to R: I have been trying to find a wrap like this for ages. It reminds me of the ones she always wears; If this tank weren't so ridiculously overpriced, I'd probably pick it up.

On another note, my Jovovich-Hawk polka dot dress came today. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet...

Background Noise: We Are Scientists

I almost forgot about Background Noise this week. Why, you ask? Well, because there's been none. I haven't had time to listen to any new music thanks to midterms. Yes, that's just one of the many joys of being a college student.

I did take a short break last night to catch up with a friend who was in town, though. We ate a lot, talked a little and I pierced my ears spur of the moment (never had this done and totally out of character for me). The only thing that would have made the night better would have been if After Hours by We Are Scientists were playing somewhere in the background. It captures last night's mood perfectly: wandering at all hours without a care in the world...

All Dressed Up

Sometimes an outfit idea comes to you long before you've even purchasesd the pieces. Actually, this it what usually happens. In my case, this is what always happens. With the help of Polyvore.com (why have I only just found out about this site?) I present to you the outfit that I've been invisioning all week, full of pieces that I don't already own. I do plan on replacing the pictured dress with this Jovovich-Hawk for Target piece from my last post. As for the other pieces, we'll see...I should note that the cluth I'm envisioning is way bigger that the one pictured. More like this.I think a less formal bag would be a nice contrast.

Now all I need is somewhere to wear this...
